Studio and leadership

The official Steam listing credits Panache Digital Games as both developer and publisher. It describes the Montreal studio as founded by Patrice Désilets.

The same official biography connects Désilets to creative-director work on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and the original Assassin’s Creed. That background is relevant context, but 1666: Amsterdam is its own project rather than an Assassin’s Creed release.

A long-running project

Eurogamer’s 2026 reporting frames 1666: Amsterdam as a concept Désilets had been pursuing for roughly 15 years. The current production is described as having begun in 2020, with the premise reshaped during the COVID lockdown period.

Steam currently lists Panache as self-publisher for the Early Access release. Funding rumors reported elsewhere are not presented here as fact.
